Philosophy of design.

A fresh approach to contemporary heritage architecture.

BLUE FRUIT specialises in re-imagination of older residential homes, especially those with a heritage overlay.

Utilising the extant parts of the building, it’s exciting to create a home which celebrates the charm of the original build, whilst bringing it to life with thoughtful design detailing and quality building. This may involve reworking the footprint, to suit the way you want to live in your home. Sometimes it’s about increasing natural daylight, to brighten rooms. And sometimes it may involve incorporating an extension - either single or double story - which ‘talks’ a complimentary language with the original parts of the home.

Older homes not only have charm, but they often contain a quality of artisan-ship and materials that are expensive to replicate today. So it makes sense that if you have fallen in love enough to purchase an older home, you probably already appreciate its beauty.

Whether you have a post-war austerity home, a Victorian Italianate terrace, a Federation villa or a mid century modern house, blue fruit understands how to work with the inherent fabric, heritage and personality of the original architecture, to design a refreshed home which is a joy to live in.

This is not a cookie-cutter approach. It is about working with you, to create a home which is uniquely yours, one that celebrates the story of the house, which also achieves how you want your home to feel when you return to it each day.

The many idiosyncratic charms of heritage homes are celebrated, which makes each project unique in style to suit both the original architecture, and the needs of the owners.

Rather than living in a museum, or adding a ‘big white box’ to the rear of a heritage home, blue fruit prefers to imagine a much more exciting version of contemporary heritage architecture. One where the home’s original stories and architecture are observed, and interpreted, to create a living visual story of heritage. And one where the interior flows seamlessly through to the exterior, and back again, referencing style details, to create a consonant connection.

Original high ceilings, hand-crafted artisan works and precious heritage materials and details can create a richness to interior spaces, when enhanced by the careful juxtapositioning of more simplified contemporary elements. An in-depth knowledge of architectural heritage, details and styles is applied, to understand how to bring out the best elements of your heritage property by working with it, rather than against it.

The result is a home which is unique - and one which is ready to relish the next chapter of its life, entwined with your own.
